This project aims to support street children to enrol and stay in school. The project focuses on raising awareness for the need of education for street children within their communities, schools and with their parents, who we work with through business skills training and savings and loans groups, so that they have the financial means to send their children to school and not rely on them to work long hours.
Sierra Leone is one of the poorest countries in the world. It has the Human Development Index ranking of 179 and over half the population lives below the international poverty line of US$1.90 per day. Poverty is the overall driver of children being on the streets in Sierra Leone. One major factor is the lack of access to education in rural areas. As a result, there are many children who are currently not attending school in Sierra Leone.
The main aim of this project is to support street children to enrol and stay in school.
